Running all Day I

Running all Day I (194)

Today I’ll introduce you the session I of “Running all Day”, my new drawing. Keep reading to know how this artwork was born…. 26/06/2023, Berlin, Germany 🇩🇪 June, as the month of movement Some weeks ago I started a new drawing that, for several reasons, I couldn’t share until today. Among those reasons I can say that June was a convulsive month, with ups and downs after the hack I suffered in which I lose my web3 profile. Also due to this reason, I jumped some days on my daily posts that I’m still trying to get back on track. June was also the month in which new things came: the opening of my physical atelier/shop/gallery at the Berlin Workstadt, which was a big decision to take. Also, the travel I did for my birthday that nicely distracted me a bit. And finally, the fact that for different reasons the creative meetings started to get less frequents, and with that also my productivity. In any case, I didn’t give it a second thought to these reduction of my creative and sharing activities: I want to keep the idea of the daily posts and the creative meetings as a something really spontaneous that gives me pleasure, right as they were born. But let’s jump into the drawing. Running all Day (I) Running all Day was born from listening to the music of Nodarling. The guitarist and singer of the band, Quique del Bianco, also sells his drawings at the Mauerpark. His stand is in front of mine and every Sunday I have the pleasure to exchange a couple of ideas and nice words with him. In one of those conversations Quique mentioned Nodarling. The day after, I listened to their last album: Space Rider during my creative breakfast at the Unser Café. I was shocked by their music, an energetic psychedelic rock with all the power and strength of an exciting space trip. Quite an experience! I didn’t know what to do when I started the drawing… I just had in mind to do a three vanishing point drawing so to keep completing the collection with Escher-like effects that I started to explore with A Wizard Without a Shadow and How Many Perspectives Are There? (see a partial collection of these artworks here. However, I drop some lines, and the music did the rest, here is the result: But tell me dear reader… How do you like my new drawing?Have you heard Nodarling before? Good night 🛸🤘🏻

M6 Landsberger Allee

M6 Landsberger Allee (193)

M6 Landsberger Allee is a (sort of) urban sketch that I did while travelling in Berlin using the tram M6 and the Ring Bahn S41. Here its story: 12/07/2023, Berlin, Germany 🇩🇪 Taking the M6 tram at Lansberger Allee This morning I opened the Berlin Workstadt and took my shift until 13. The morning was calm and uneventful, just a couple of persons entered but nothing really big happened. As the morning was calm, I replied some emails and then worked on an app that I’m developing (nothing really fancy, just something for taking care of my finances and the markets). Also during the morning, I coordinated with two persons offering things through the group Free Your Stuff Berlin. First, with a girl that offered a Matisse painting in an aluminium frame, and second with a guy offering some colour cardboards that I can certainly use for the markets. After my shift at the Berlin Workstadt, I headed my way to the house of Alex and Ono in Prenzlauer Berg. These fellas are two beautiful cats that I sit from time to time since August 2021. I spent the afternoon with them, working a little bit more. Then I headed my destination to pick up the painting and the cardboards. During my trip, I started to draw on my phone, initially just faces and then capturing the people around me. I took the two pictures without the authorisation of the involved subjects, who where so concentrated on their phones that they didn’t even realise I drew them, right as that guy on the M2 that I drew time ago. The stuff and some surprises The Matisse print is bigger than I imaged, around 1,2m wide and 40 cm high. Initially, I thought I’d re use the frame for one of my paintings. But now that I see the image called “Women and Monkeys“, I’m considering to keep it, it is a really nice composition. When I arrived to the second point, the guy who received me saw me with the big frame and immediately offered me more frames and paintings. Of course, I was very curious to see what we had. In the end, I finished picking up a big frame of 1×0.7m and a smaller squared frame of around 40 cm that I’d probably use for (Labyrinth 01). But tell me dear reader… I insist with this question: would you be upset if I draw you without your consent?Do you have cats? Good evening 🐈‍⬛🐈 Lufo

¿Qué pasó? (186)

Buenas noches 🎸🎶 Lufo

What happened?

What happened? (186)

The song ¿Qué pasó? (What happened?) by Bersuit Vergarabat inspired the drawing I am sharing with you today. The mini artwork was made just a few days before painting Partenopea in rosso e verde. 09/09/2019, Naples, Italy 🇮🇹 Damn wait, it’s the best time lost Bersuit Vergarabat is an Argentinian musical group that strongly marked my adolescence. Their bohemian lyrics and their slippery messages, their protest rock and their essence of guitar-playing in front of the campfire represented for me an ideal image at the time when I also wanted to protest against everyone, to go lost into the mountains, and to live off the air and the grass of the Córdoba mountains to cure my disillusionment. “Damn waiting, it’s the best time lost”… says a part of the song, and that’s what I was thinking while I was in Naples in 2019. I felt like I was waiting my return to Berlin, but I also thought it was the best time wasted. I was studying and making progress on my PhD, and the end was getting closer and closer. This whirlwind of thoughts was going through my head almost 20 years later of the moment in which I was innocently trying to find the chords of that song on my first guitar. Today, instead of sharing many more of my words with you dear reader, I will leave you with the song’s lyrics, in the hope that it will give you some interesting food for thought: What happened? They twisted your arm…And you didn’t go down to the pavement no moreOur tired passionsSadden this era that’s ending… Alone in your lairYou are the secret of a lost cityI want to sing to you so I won’t forget youOne day and forever If a great caravanShould shake your pupilsWith a procession of blind menWho traffic in dull lights If your lanterns don’t burnAt least give me some of your fleshIn my song you are lostNot finding you brought bad luck, and I ask: What happened (x4) The sky goes out, it’s discolouredAnd you don’t see it from looking straight aheadBlind hunger bit your sunThe sea out of fear lost its eternal whine Damn waiting! It’s the best time lostYou turn off, I’ve turned off or you’ll turn me offOr what do you do, or what do I do, I ask: What happened (x8) As I live todayThat damn wait…Like I live todayThat damn wait…And that damn wait… But tell me dear reader… Was this Tuesday also glorious for you? What did you have for lunch? Good evening 🥗🪩 Lufo

Primo classificato - Receiving the certificate

Primo classificato (176)

29/05/2016, Avellino, Italy 🇮🇹 I guess this is the closing post related to the urban sketchers contest organised by the FAI (Fondo per l’Ambiente Italiano) in Avellino. Here are all the previous entries: In today’s pictures you can see how the prints were set up inside the auditorium used as a showroom. I didn’t really do much: all the prints were A3 modules so I stuck one under the other with tape, and then hung each column made by 5 drawings each with two clips from above. However, the result was quite nice: an organic and at the same structured composition, with a lot of colours and contrasts. Among all those drawings I can see many stories related to the time and place where each of them was made. The last picture shows the moment when I received the certificate for winning the 1st place in the competition. I also remember the heat of blushing because I had to give a little speech to the public 😅 But tell me dear reader… Should I rebuild that drawing wall digitally?Do you like to give speeches in front of an audience? 19,35 m2 of dreams 02

19.35 m2 of dreams (175)

02/06/2016, Salerno, Italy 🇮🇹 In yesterday’s story I talked about the exhibition in Avellino. Today I show you what the prints looked like when they were all together: a 19,35 m2 (13,02 x 1,485 m) collection of drawings made in Italy in the period 2011-2016. Among those drawings I can clearly see my evolution: the first shy doodles when I took off from Cordoba airport on 14 July 2011, crying like a baby for having achieved what I considered a miracle ([Story 41 , Story 42]). The drawings of 2012 show another Lucas, more confident and thirsty for knowledge, with gestures capturing more and more details of reality. In 2013 and 2014 I was already making very wide and pronounced perspectives (which ended up leading me to spherical perspectives), with strong contrasts and a more established technique. 2015 and 2016 were years with explorations that began to combine physical reality and my surreal dreams. This language led me to new mixed compositions that come out of reality and connect with a more dreamlike, whimsical world… But tell me dear reader… Would you have space to hang these drawings at home? What has been the miracle you have achieved in your life? Originals and copies

Originals and copies (174)

04/06/2016, Salerno, Italy 🇮🇹 2016 was the year I started doing public exhibitions with my drawings. One of these presentations was in Avellino, after the competition for urban sketchers that I have mentioned before here and here. The theme of the exhibition was the celebration of the 5 years since my first trip to Italy, and the trips I made within Italy once I moved in 2013. So, I proposed an exhibition with (almost) all my drawings from Italy between 2011 and 2016. However, I did not have all my sketchbooks from 2011 and 2012 because some of them were stolen during my stay in Paraguay. For that reason – and also to unify the sizes of all drawings – I made prints with which I covered the two main walls of the exhibition hall. But a problem arose when I saw the prints and compared them with the originals: the colours were totally different! This happened due to two things (mainly) 1 – the printer converted the colour palette, killing the original settings; and 2 – the scans follow the drawings as they were originally, but the watercolours lose saturation with time… However… after looking at the result a couple of more times… I think they weren’t that bad after all…. But tell me dear reader… Do you prefer the original or the copy?Should I scan my drawings, matching the original colours, or do I have to tune it as I like? Intensity IV: A microphone for the Queen

Intensity IV: A microphone for the Queen (167)

04/05/2015, London, United Kingdom 🇬🇧 This is another episode of the trip to London, Paris and Milan that I made in 2015. Here are the previous stories: Today’s drawing seems a bit funny to me. I was trying to portray the ridiculous hat of the famous Royal Guard. Don’t you think the guards look like a microphone in the distance? I think so… otherwise I would never have drawn a picture of the Queen’s guards (what for?). Anyway, more than “curiosities” about these guards, I remember something more special from that day: I was in the crowd with my parents, waiting for the changing of the guards (things we do as a family and we never do alone!) and suddenly I met a girl who was staring at me… She was a few metres away, “on the other side” of the street. She smiled and I blushed, but I couldn’t help looking at her. I plucked up my courage, and when I tried to cross the street I was pushed back by the crowd: the changing of the guards had started. I could no longer see her or find her… But tell me dear reader… Do you remember any love story that wasn’t even a story?Do you think the guards dress up as giant microphones for (the) Queen? A world of perspectives II

A world of perspectives II (164)

13/06/2023, Berlin, Germany 🇩🇪 Last Sunday I talked about how well the markets are going. Well, to continue this tailwind, yesterday I received an invitation to make a new market. So today I met up with two friends who helped me define my real chances of accepting or not. Because yes, I can’t do it alone. And because yes, it doesn’t hurt to have help. And because yes, joining forces can be very beneficial for everyone! For all these reasons, I spent 3 hours in a cafe with my friends, defining, asking their opinion, letting them organise me better. At the end of the meeting we had our brains fried (almost literally)…. we exchanged a lot of information! However, now I have a clearer picture: we already know what the next steps are going to be, who is going to be in charge of each of the next markets and what we have to invest to get everything ready. So now there is only one thing left to do: to do what we scheduled 😅. Let’s see how much comes true in the exercise of materialising our ideas… But tell me dear reader… Do you like brain storming? What products/prints/sizes would you add to my stand? intensity III

Intensity III: The Tower of London (163)

03/05/2015, London, United Kingdom 🇬🇧 This is the 3rd sketch from the trip I made to London in 2015 (1st [link to 153], 2nd [link to 154]). Today’s scene portraits a spot of the city where the old and the modern architecture meet: The Tower of London. The Tower of London served as a castle, prison, fortress, royal palace and many other things. In medieval times it was said that “no one escapes from the Tower of London”. However, on August 1, 1323, Roger Mortimer did escape, thus taking refuge in France and becoming the lover of the English Queen Isabella of France, married to Edward II. This escape and the story of love with Isabella was one of the strongest ingredients for the beginning of the 100 years war between England and France. Everything is thoroughly described in the 5th and 6th books of “The Cursed Kings” by Maurice Druon. When I made this trip I was reading (actually, re-reading) The Cursed Kings (you can see in the background of the picture the 2nd book “The Strangled Queen” – in Spanish “La Reina Estrangulada”). The seven books of this series traveled with me during those days, as I found them the perfect complement to visit France and England. But tell me dear reader… Which books would you bring for travelling through France and England? What do you think about this meetings of medieval and modern architecture?
