Lufo at A Hidden Variable 1st edition
Lufo Art will be part of the 1st edition of A Hidden Variable, which will take place between the 1st and 15th of July 2025. The event, curated by Ala Leresteux and Masha Msky, will gather 25 international artists at Denizen Art & Coworking Space. New horizons That’s it my dear reader. While I am almost done writing the dissertation of my 2nd PhD, and after the great success at BAAM 9 (with a total of 13 sales!), I will have another chance to present my art to the world. In this occasion, as part of the project “A Hidden Variable”: A Hidden Variable is a Berlin-based initiative dedicated to showcasing art inspired by science and created by scientifically curious minds”. Through exhibitions and interdisciplinary collaborations, the project reveals the unseen forces—both scientific and psychological—that shape our understanding of the world, inviting audiences to explore the hidden connections between art, science, and perception. Ala Leresteux and Masha Msky. I met the organisers of A Hidden Variable after participating at the Macro Art Dot exhibition last year. These two lovely girls, Ala and Masha, are opening new fields for presenting art within the intersection of sciences and arts. And, as you well know my dear reader, that’s very much my game. So, I applied to their open call some months ago, and got selected! The artwork that I will present at A Hidden Variable As the specific focus of this exhibition is something hidden, I applied with “Moebiuslin”. The artwork is a handmade spherical perspective in equirectangular format. For those who do not know what a spherical perspective is, in short, these drawings follow a special distortion that allows me to create a VR environment out of them. So, here you have the flat artwork: and here you have the VR environment (click and drag): If you are interested in getting to know more about this, you can start by reading this article, in which I explain what’s the particularity behind handmade VR art. Then, you can read my 1st PhD thesis – specially, the first half; some of my research papers like this, this or this one; or explore some of my previous exhibitions. Another option is you coming to Denizen, experiencing the artwork in first person, and talking with me about this nerdy topics. About Moebiuslin Moebiuslin is the first equirectangular panorama that I paint with acrylic, which turned to be a very interesting experience! The artwork combines “Escher-like” optical paradoxes (e.g, never-ending stairs, relative readings) with a further mathematic concept: the Möbius strip. The Möbius strip is a non-orientable surface (i.e., we cannot distinguish clockwise from counterclockwise within a loop). The orientation changes on every turn: are we inside? Outside? Up? Above? In the artwork, the Möbius strip gets complete only within the VR and, oh, wait, Berlin is in it! So, are you inside/outside above/below Berlin? Well, the only way to see the paradox of a closed system is standing outside of it, so maybe getting the external references from that portal of love… or the hand on top and that “DU BIST” watching you… Wait. Don’t you see the hand? Well, that’s Moebiuslin’s hidden variable… Moebiuslin, handmade equirectangular VR perspective, acrylic on canvas © Lufo Art, 2025 About Spheri Moebiuslin will be presented using Spheri, a program coded by me through which visitors can interact with the VR environment using their hands in the air and without any special gloves or equipment. This software uses body tracking via MediaPipe and it is explained in detail at the article available at www.spheri.art.
